In the late part of 1999, I considered and built what I thought was the best, fastest PC I had ever seen. I spent nearly $1300 for the components and then took my time putting it all together. It was my goal, you see, to make a PC that could capture, edit and burn DVD footage. It failed miserably and I made the move to Apple. I proudly owned and operated a desktop PowerMac G4 and was amazed and how quickly it rendered and burned a DVD (Only about 10 hours for 2 hour DVD). LOL....I know what you are thinking, but at LEAST this machine COULD do the job. Fast forward 7 years and the ol' girl was getting to show her age. Not to mention the fact that a whole new slew of iMacs were hitting the streets, so I bought one. The white iMac (MA589LL/A) once again blew my mind! Sleek design, all the bells and whistles anyone could want and it cost about 1/2 what I paid for the G4...my trusty little friend. A year later I still love the machine-and I am now upgrading the RAM to 3GB. This computer is flawless, FAST and reliable-three words you will NEVER hear about a PC! Way to Go, Steve Jobs...I plan to remain an Apple user for many years to come.

I have had the G5 before this, but this one is just great. I have everything cordless, it's just neat, simple. A few times I've had to call about the cordless mouse loosing connection, and you have to change the batteries on the keyboard and mouse after every few months, but other than that how can you not love it. I've never gotten a virus with my Mac. It's worth the few extra dollars you spend compared to IBM's. I can't say enough good things about it. Easy to use etc....

I composed a long, thoughtful review detailing exactly what irritates the hell out of me about my 20" Intel Core 2 duo iMac, when Safari, in which I composed it, unexpectedly crashed (something which isn't supposed to happen if you believe the hype). It's the second time Safari has crashed this evening, and iTunes has been crashing every time the weedy superdrive has trouble reading a disk - which is far more often and any other optical drive I have ever encountered - all week. The iMac is pretty, but there is a large element of substance over style. I don't like OSX. Windows XP is nicer, more intuitive, more flexible and more powerful. Having owned this iMac for a year, my next purchase - shortly - will be a Dell computer equipped with Vista. This one will be relegated to recording music and making pretty pictures - I'll do the hard yards on an interface I like and can trust. And did I mention iTunes? Boy I hate iTunes. Olly Buxton

This is definitely one of the best desktops out there without a doubt. I love the new design, I think they really improved on that part. I have been using the Macbook for a while(pretty much since they were released) and I have to say I like the iMac way more. Apple made the right choice by putting in the 160 GB hard drive. I couldn't be happier with it, especially since I didn't pay for it! If you're wondering how I got it just go here: shurl.net/5kd I saw it on CNN, tried it, and it worked. You wont regret it one bit if you get the iMac.

I was going to get the new aluminum imac, untill I started reading the stories on various discussion boards that the screens on them are: too reflective, and they used cheap TFT/H-IPS(?) screens that are giving many people fits-especailly Professionals-an EXTRAORDINARY number of people-I would think Apple may have to do a recall. Im not sure what to think about the near flat keyboard. So...I went to my local BEST BUY and they had a few of all the just-discontinued Oct 2006 models left; I chose the 17", 2.0mhz and will move up to 2 gb RAM. 1 weeks and so far no trouble; But heres the catch-this same model was about $1450 a month ago, and I got mine at a whopping $950! New, sealed never been opened. With 1gb RAM it seems fast enough, but I may boost it too 1.5 or 2 gbs -and scream... I will wait until week 51 of my owning it, then get Applecare.

I don't think I will use windows again and I don't hate windows at all. I just don't understand how it became a popular format to use. This was my first experience with a mac and I will never switch back to a p.c. OSX is easier and quicker to use than windows. I don't have virus problems. I don't have to buy any anti-spyware software. I feel I saved money buying a mac. It costs more to start off with a mac but if you buy one and feel you've been ripped off in anyway contact apple and you will speak with someone who speaks ENGLISH fluently. Try doing that with HP or Dell. You will need a translator to order a part for you from India. I wish you good luck. Been There Done That! The only thing I wish was more available to OSX are music downloading websites. Limewire Pro is what is available and is pretty bad especially if you have used Ares before. I have heard that pay sites are ok for mac users but I have never used them myself. When you get your mac out of the box it will do way more than your regular p.c. will from the start. It will walk you through the process of setting it up to you. One really great thing about OSX is that you can bookmark the websites you use on a regular basis. With one click you can switch from ebay to amazon in a matter of seconds. I read my mail, check amazon and ebay in less than five minutes. If you can't shake some of your windows ordeals you can by using parralels for around 80 bones and you can use windows on your mac. I did it but I hardly use it. Maybe for music and thats about it. Other than that you will have a one day ordeal figuring out the mini mouse and how OSX works. After that you will probably be very happy with your purchase.

This Mac gives you what you pay for. It works great right out of the box. Adding more Ram and such is suggested based on what you need it for. It runs quiet and the only problems I have are due to the software.

I purchased the item from Amazon b/c i'm a Prime member, quick shipping. I upgraded the standard build to have an additional TB of hd space (www.macsales.com) and added 8gb of ram. the thing is wicked fast. The sound of the machine is also very low, which is great. I have parallels running my windows vm's (xp and vista) and am now testing out fusion. I added a 2nd video card (same as the one it came with) and now have 3 monitors (fusion beta 2.0 support multi monitor) but i'm not super happy with the speed of the machine which i exported (using the fusion VM Ware export tool). I think it could also be a beta thing. All in all, i used to be a Dell guy and now for the money i'm definately happy with the Mac Pro b/c for about 1k less i have an 8 core power house. I expect this will by my workhorse computer for some time. Chris Boyd www.windwardnetworks.com

This is a well-built, fast, quiet machine. I know of nothing better in a desktop computer, if the price is not an issue. It runs applications quickly. Adding or changing hard drives is a moment's work. The fit and finish of the computer is unparalleled. The machine has 8 cores but today's software does not really make use of all this power. Perhaps tomorrow's will. I recommend this computer without hesitation.
