Dress up your bedroom so you feel like royalty–it’s fun and easy!  I redecorated two beds at my home just last weekend, primarily by adding a canopy to my bed and a bed crown to the headboard of my guest bed. Both these are extremely popular and offer an interesting twist in bedroom decor. They embellish the bed with a luxurious appeal. Let’s talk about them one by one:

Canopy beds

You can start to recreate medieval magic in your room with a canopy bed. There are two types, and they both add personality to any bedroom. One is the traditional type and the other is modern. The traditional canopy bed is made of rich wood, carved with intricate patterns, and has four posts. A heavy curtain, which has wrinkles or folds, is hung over the side of the frame so that the bed is curtained off from the rest of the room.

Modern canopy beds don’t use wood posts. Instead, the curtain is hooked or otherwise attached to the ceiling, or is hung on metal posts. There are varieties of design, color and finishes. You can either go with a heavy curtain, or a lightweight netted cloth to get a modern royal finish to your room.

Bed crown

If you don’t want a canopy, try making your room look luxurious with a decorative bed crown, which is a novel piece of interior decoration. Bed crowns are mounted or hung on the wall just above the head of the bed, and holds drapery over the bed. I used a bed crown over the bed in my guest bedroom to make my guests feel like royalty. To tie it into the room, I made drapes for the windows out of the same material that is attached to the bed crown. It’s a beautiful dark red fabric, and I finished the look with a comforter that’s a similar red with gold accents and some silk throw pillows.
