The bolero jacket originated in Spain as part of the gentleman’s dance costume and also as the equestrian rider in bullfights. If you are the type of person who likes no-frills classic looks, then stick to a basic bolero jacket made from durable material.

It may payoff to invest in two bolero jackets, one for everyday wear and one for special occasions. Either way, practice pairing up your jacket with different clothing pieces and styles. Pretty soon you’ll get a knack for what works for you.

For skirts and dresses: Skirts are pretty easy for a transition from day-to-night, the thing you have to worry about is choosing a skirt that suits your body type. The best skirts for day-to-night transitions are full skirts, flared skirts, pleated skirts and last, but certainly not least, pencil skirts.

The other trick with picking a skirt is finding colors that are bold at night and subtle in the office — think plums, corals and some blues. What’s really popular and great for day-to-night wear are skirts and dresses made with subtle yet bold print fabrics.

Just remember to bring a change of shoes for the end of the day if your outfit calls for it and you’re all set to take back the night and your social life!
