Asha's new friend Bubba

Who is is this strapping tomcat? This is Bubba, Asha’s friend. He is a stray cat who wanders around my neighborhood. He used to belong to the family that lived next door to me, but from what I understand, he loves being outdoors so he is pretty much a stray. From his markings, it looks like he is some sort of tabby mix breed. He is friendly although a little shy. He likes being petted by those he is familiar with.
Asha and Bubba have recently become best friends. They first met back when Asha was still a kitten. I brought her outside to meet Bubba because I wanted Asha to have friends, but things didn’t go smoothly at first. Bubba liked to hide underneath the house, and Asha was very curious about what was underneath there. We blocked the passage off, but eventually they met face to face in my backyard. Asha and Bubba stared each other down until finally Bubba reached out and swatted Asha with his paw! Asha cowered for a bit, and I decided to rescue her from the big mean kitty.
When I started letting Asha outside more, Asha and Bubba developed a friendship. I have often seen them wrestling in the front yard, and Asha seems to like hiding and observing him. Recently, when Asha sees Bubba she is very affectionate, as she licks his neck repeatedly. My mom is worried the possibility of Bubba’s fleas spreading to Asha, but since we use bayer advantage flea killer, I assured her that it wasn’t a problem. Here is a photo of the two of them!
So cute! I did some research, and apparently it is usually the dominant cat that licks the submissive one, but I’m not so sure this is the case. I think Asha is just very affectionate . Since Asha loves her new friend so much, we have started feeding Bubba some of her cat food. Mostly dry cat food, specifically Hill’s Science Diet. He seems to appreciate the gesture!
