Top Wicker Chairs
Few things are as classic as a wicker rocking chair. The first wicker furniture goes back quite a while, and pretty much anything can be made out of wicker. In the battle of Thermopylae, Persian soldiers had shields made of wicker, although this was probably not the best idea. Nowadays, people use wicker for baskets, chairs, coffee tables, and other retro furniture. It is light, sturdy, and relatively inexpensive. Proper weaving can leave interesting whorls and crazy designs.
Indoor wicker furniture tends to be softer and shinier. Wicker furniture will scratch hardwood floors, so make sure to get some caps for the feet. Chair Leg Caps come in felt, rubber and plastic, aim for felt or a lighter color. Black marks don’t look much better than scratches on tile or hardwood.
Outdoor wicker furniture tends towards the rustic. Expect to see unfinished, larger diameter sticks. Cushions are recommended, as unfinished furniture will wear out faster and be rougher on the more delicate parts of the anatomy. Splinters are never fun. A good patio set should have a small coffee table and one or two rocking chairs. Throw in a mint julep for the ultimate summer evening hangout.

- Furniture polish (wood)
- Seat covers
It’s important to dust your furniture often. To properly care for your chairs you should try to use furniture polish after dusting. Furniture polish will help maintain a shine to you chairs making them look nice and last longer. Depending on the style of chair you might be able to add a seat cover. It can be something as simple as a padded seat or something that will protect the entire chair like a slip cover.
How to level chair legs?
If the legs of your chairs are uneven it can be quite discomforting sitting in them. Rather than buying new chairs there are some things you can do to remedy the situation. Chair leg caps could be a quick and easy fix. Depending on how severe the situation is you’ll want to consider either trying to fix the short leg or cutting the longer legs. Determining which leg of the chair it is that’s causing the problem can be the difficult part.
- You’ll want to be sure to first check that the floor upon which the chair sits is level.
- Once you’ve made sure that it is the chair that is causing the problem you’ll want to set the chair on a totally level surface.
- Rest the chair so that three legs are on the ground and place a leveler on the seat to make sure that the chair is sitting level.
- Once the chair is level look to see which leg is off the ground. This will identify which leg is causing the problem.
You can now determine whether the best thing to do is to place a chair leg cap on the leg in question or shorten the other three legs.
