Organic neem oil: insecticide without the collateral damage

Trees and plants are essential for our well being by providing us oxygen and sustenance. With the world moving to more sustainable foods, it is good to know that trees and plants can provide us with an organic supply of oils. We already know that there is corn, grape seed, canola, peanut and olive oil but there are many other types of oils out there as well. Coconut oil is popular in Asian cooking and beneficial because it gives off the least amount of harmful by-products of all the other cooking oils when heated.
Although oil extracted from trees and plants is great for cooking, they can also serve other functions. For example, organic neem oil is used as an insecticide. It will keep your garden stay pest free and the oil is not harmful to birds, mammals or even the plants. Many insecticides are made out of abrasive and harmful chemicals that could hurt other plants and animals in the ecosystem that might be beneficial to your garden. Organic neem oil is made from an evergreen tree that is usually found in India. The oil is dark brown, bitter tasting, and smells like peanut and garlic.
Getting rid of pests that chew and eat up your plants and crops doesn’t mean you have to use chemicals whose effects on humans is known to be detrimental to our health. The EPA notes that insecticides are known carcinogens and should be avoided. Insecticides are also known to damage human hormone and endocrine systems. By using a bit of organic neem oil, you can keep the caterpillars, aphids, and other pests away and keep your precious garden truly organic. By avoiding the use of pesticides and insecticides, you avoid harming your plants, innocuous animals, and most importantly, yourself.
