Dog Harness

This is Rosebud, she is an 8 month old French bulldog who currently belongs to my aunt (I say currently because I’m an working on a plan to make her mine) She is the cutest little thing. I can’t wait for the day when I can get my own dog. When it comes time for me to get a dog I think I am either going to get a French bulldog or a Lab. I have had Labs all my life and I love them so much, but now that I have had the opportunity to doggie-sit Rosebud perhaps this breed is something to consider. I don’t know anyone else who has had a French bulldog so if you have any advice or tips that would be great?

This weekend I had the opportunity to puppy sit Rosebud and boy did we have fun. I took her everywhere with me. We went and visited my friend who has a Rot/German mix and the two of them played for hours. I think that this might have been the most exercise that she has ever had because she was out for the rest of the day. The next day I took her to a bridal shower where she was the hit of the party (sorry bride-to-be, whoops). Everyone who saw her wanted to take her home with them. I had to be extra careful with the women who had large purses. At the end of the shower the bride-to-be came up to me and said, “I did not think I would have to share the spotlight with Rosebud.” Good thing she was kidding or I would have felt so bad,  look at her, can you blame people for wanting to give her attention?

My aunt had warned me that Rosebud doesn’t like to wear a dog collar and that if she sees you coming with it in your hands you will have a fun game of catch me if you can. When I asked my aunt why she doesn’t like to wear a collar she responded, “because she does not like to go on walks.” I have never heard of a dog not wanting to go on walk. My aunt uses a dog harness to walk Rosebud. I have never used a harness with my dogs, we just use the old collar and leash. The harness seems like a great idea. I have always wondered if the collar and dog leash method hurts dogs? All that tension and pulling on their necks to me seems like that might hurt them, or perhaps it hurts little dogs and not big dogs? I have never seen a Great Dane with a harness on. If you have any advice or answers on whether harness are better for dogs or not let me know.
