Don’t you just hate it when kids are glued in front of the television and you can’t get their attention? Well I’m sure most moms would! It’s always good for children to pick up a creative hobby to pass time rather than just sitting in from of the TV or the computer. One of the best hobbies for kids to do is start learning a musical instrument.

Learning how to play an instrument has a lot of advantages. Recent studies have shown that learning an instrument at a young age helps improve your IQ and the development of certain parts of the brain. They also teach you to be disciplined about practicing and relieve you from stress. Once you have mastered a musical instrument, you have a sense of achievement that is unique. Above all, being in a band is a lot of fun and it can make you popular as you get older.

Once you find that your kids are improving with their instruments you can get them better ones or even help them start a garage band. To start a garage band the first thing you would need are musical instruments and band members who can play them. To start off, all you need is a guitar with a bass amplifier and a decent drum set. Most garage bands usually start off like this and then upgrade as they get better. The advantage of starting early is when you get to your prime years you would be perfect with the particular instruments you play.

Or your kid could try their hand at another type of instrument. Joining a marching band is a great experience for a kid, because they get to compete with their peers. Or they could try an orchestra instrument, and their entire family could see their concerts!

For all you know, your child could end up becoming a rock star and the next generation of kids would be listening to their music on Kid CD players.
