This game is very fun. Being able to design roller coasters, to go-karts to a monorail this game is awesome!! The only bad thing about this game is one, its hard to make money allot of the time and, its hard to build an awesome roller coaster without it being to extreme. (because if it's too extreme no one will go on it)

Before purchasing RollerCoaster Tycoon for myself I decided to borrow it from a friend - just to be sure it was something I would enjoy. I personally enjoy games that provide a challenge without being over-the-top/insanely difficult. And, I have to say that this game fit the bill, and from day one I just couldn't get enough of it! In RollerCoaster Tycoon your job is to create the "ultimate" theme park - a place where everyone wants to go to have fun, relax, and spend all that money that's been burning a hole in their pocket (smile). You do this by: *Choosing (or creating for yourself) which rides, eating establishments, & souveneir stalls to purchase, as well as where to place them & how much to charge your customers for each. *Determining how much to charge for entry into your park. This will increase over time, as you build more rides & such for your customers to enjoy. *Ensuring that you hire enough workers (handymen & maintenance crews) to keep your park clean & provide quick maintenance on your rides. If your park becomes dirty & rides are down too long, you lose lots of current as well as potential customers until you get the problem fixed. *Determining the "right" amount of money to spend on research & marketing - as the more you spend on research, the faster new rides & stalls become available to you. *Paying attention to what customers are thinking & how happy (or unhappy) they are. They'll let you know if prices are too high or the park is getting dirty, so be sure to check-in with them regularly. *Making the surroundings nice to look at by purchasing & placing such things as benches, fountains, statues, etc... Also, you want to be sure to purchase plenty of trash cans so your customers have somewhere to dump their trash other than on the ground. *Checking-in to see the popularity of your rides, as this will change over time. If something is no longer popular you can always lower to the price to see if that helps, or get rid of it so that you can put something better in its place. In this game there are several different levels (or parks) to play, each with its' own challenges. Although I tend to play until I beat the challenge & then move on, I have friends who continue to play, making up their own increasing challenges along the way. If you do the latter, this game could last you a VERY LONG time indeed! Overall, I think RollerCoaster Tycoon is a great game for older children & adults alike! Not only is it great fun to play, but it teaches you (and/or your child) some of the most important factors of business, such as always paying attention to customer wants & needs & the types of products you're offering; the importance of marketing & research, how interest builds up when you borrow money, etc... If you're new to "Tycoon"-type games (or even if you're not), you might want to try something like "Fairy Godmother Tycoon" first. This is another awesome game & I found that helped me to get my feet wet with this genre of games.

After seeing the negative review this item received, and knowing how much my son has played with his Rheneas & the Roller Coaster set, I thought I'd add a review. We gave this item to our 4 year-old son for Christmas, and he frequently includes it in his Thomas layouts. He spends many hours playing with his Thomas & Brio trains, including this roller coaster set. He loves both trains and roller coasters, so it is a great fit. My husband set it up for our son initially, but he can do it himself now and does not usually knock it over (although sometimes the cats do!). If it gets bumped and a portion of the track is no longer connected, he can easily fit it back together. Our son, who will be 5 soon, designs very elaborate layouts, sketching them on paper, and then he & his Dad go to work making his vision a reality! We have been very happy with this product.

A great toy for the older engineer. My 8 year old daughter loves this set. It took her 15 minutes to put together. She really had to think of where to place the supports or the train tracks would fall down. A real thinking train set. I do not recommend this for young children since my 4 year old played with it for about 15 minutes and then it fell apart. She could not figure out how to fix it and walked away. I asked my 8 year old to rate it and she said 5 stars, but she changed her mind to 4 stars since she said it falls apart.

My son who loves Thomas the Tank Engine, and has a bunch of Thomas sets now including this Waste Of Money. I paid a lil over $100 for this item and after 30 min or so of putting this Unstable mess together my son had it trashed within seconds so unless you feel like buying tons of Liquid Nails to keep this ROLLERCOASTER set Together Save Your Money, it is a toy that will probably frustrate most children as it did my son. A nice alternative is the Thomas Bolder Mountain which is a lil more stable. Hope this Helps!!!!! THUMBS DOWN

It's okay, I mean I saw even worse tycoon games then this one. I enjoy it when I'm really bored though. Otherwise I wouldn't play it. I don't have alot of games. But... I can tell what a bad game is. For example really bad graphics. If you like getting bored, like rides and building your own theme park, and are looking for a rated "E" game I ersonally would recomend this. I

This game is fun and everything, but it eventually gets annoying. Even if you carefully spend money without going over budget, you still might not be able to buy anything but a bathroom. I still haven't got how you build scenery buildings; It's just so complicated.

I am a fan of the RC series from its inception, back in my high school days, with Chris Taylor eye-bleeding Roller Coaster Tycoon (those 2d textures really killed your sight). The newest (and possibly final, pending legal resolution) entry has now been packaged together with its two expansion packs - Soaked and Wild, into one pre-patched Platinum edition. The cost of the pack is commiserate with buying all three together (if you can even FIND a copy of RCT3) so the value is pretty high here. The game itself is tons of fun, giving the player free reign to build the theme park of their dreams. Although a novelty, which is ultimately rarely used, it is rather neat that you can actually ride many of your rides from a first person perspective (this works especially well with Roller Coasters). Placement of rides, decoration, types of shops, research budget, ride prices, all are under the player's control - making it a micromanager's dream (you can even control the color of the ride and the color of the ride's queue). My only two concerns are some technical problems and a general lack of challenge to the game's campaigns. It is very easy to reach gold tycoon in all of the campaign levels, although really this isn't much the point. The game is far more to play as a "sandbox" game. I had some lagging when attempting to place rides and decoration, and while playable, it is slightly annoying. Some users, with less up-to-date rigs have reported lots of lagging when their park sizes and guest numbers go to high, so make sure you have a bit higher than recommended specs here.

This game is great for all ages. The controls area little hard to figure out at first, but once you get the hang of it, they are really easy to use. It is really exciting to get to ride your own coasters, and having the new "autocomplete" is great when you can't finish the coaster yourself, or if you get impatient. My 10 year old loves it as well.

This game is so totally AWESOME! (if you know how to do it) There is a toolbox on the main menu. Click on it. It will say 'Scenario Editor.' In a scenario you can create your own sized park, your own rides, even your own color water!! Take my advice; go to Target and BUY THIS GAME!!!!

The expansion pack to this popular PC game is non-stop fun!!!! I especially enjoy the "Wacky Worlds" edition, which allows you to build your theme park in exotic locations around the world (places like The Great Wall of China, etc.). This game will impress you so much, that you will soon find yourself addicted. GAME ON PEOPLE!!!!!!!

For those of you familiar with the RCT series, this is the second 'version' of it + the two expansions that came out alongside RCT2, Wacky Worlds and Time Twister. Overall it's worth it to bundle the 3 packs together, but much of the complaints about WW & TT are fully warranted. The game of course, is a simulation based game where you open and run a theme park in order to obtain a certain goal. The original game was hugely successful with its easy user interface and challenging play...RCT2 doesn't really expand on that a whole lot other than adding some new building/design features, a ton of new rides and theming, and a new variety of challenges (such as paying off loans, building X number of rollercoasters, and so on). There is also the addition of building your own style of park, or playing in 'real world' parks based on the Six Flags franchise. There are now 3 levels of play that allow you access to all the scenarios at once (rather than having to beat some to gain access to new ones) - beginner, challenging, and expert. Another interesting twist is the fact you can now only have one source of income - either you charge your guests admission for unlimited rides, or you charge them per ride (shops, stalls etc. income not withstanding). Both of these options provide challenges and advantages that add a dynamic element to the game. The two expansions add a bunch of new scenarios that are themed to their various titles. Wacky Worlds has themes (usually one at each level of play) surrounding Africa, China, America, Europe etc. Time Twister's themes include Rock & Roll, Roaring 20's, Stone Age, and Future etc. Each 'theme' is applied to a specific scenario - such as a Roaring 20's park set on the island prison Alcatraz, or the Rock & Roll park set on Woodstock. The expansions don't really add anything new persay - all of the 'new' rides are really just themed versions of rides already in existence, either through new rollercoaster carts for previously existing coasters, or new decorated versions of existing rides...ie: the go-karts become long, 20's style vehicles if you are playing a roaring 20's scenario. As if it weren't letdown enough that the new rides aren't really 'new', they also aren't really available beyond their themed scenarios - in other words the expansions fail to integrate with one another. You can only access rock and roll themeing/themed rides in rock and roll scenarios. Although if you wanted to build your own park, I'm sure that'd be fixable. In terms of the new scenarios, the ones that come with the base game of RCT 2 are pretty simple but surprisingly a fair bit more challenging (from what I've experienced) of the ones that come with the expansions. I found I could complete certain Time Twister/Wacky Worlds challenges within a few months rather than the year or two it normally takes to complete something. For some reason, I found it less satisfying to work on building a park with the themes the game supplied me with...I'd much rather theme my own park, and that is what would make me stick around after my goal was completed, but unfortunately the developers didn't seem to realize that. Overall RCT2 is good if you basically want to expand your original gameplay. The dropped price of this pack reflects its lack of improvement on the original - especially in terms of graphics. IF you are a diehard RCT fan, and just want to play something new, then pick up this RCT2 pack, otherwise you might want to try out RCT3.
