With the decrease in LCD monitor prices even regular users are getting a second video monitor to their computer. The addition of a second monitor or even third one increases the viewing space running on a single computer. You can work have your work on one screen and have a movie playing on the other. Having the second monitor comes in handy while multitasking. Now to install the second monitor to your computer you would need a few things.

• A graphic card or your on-board graphics adapter that is capable of duel monitors.
• If your graphic card or on-board graphics adapter isn’t capable of duel monitors you would need a monitor switch box.
• A second monitor.

Now days all video cards and onboard graphic adapters support duel cards so it shouldn’t be a problem connecting two monitors. Here’s how you do it.

• If you happen to use a switch box to connect two LCD monitors then you would have no problem at all. All you need to do here is connect your computer to this switch box and it will give you two VGA where in you can connect two flat panel monitors.
• If you happen to have a video card that supports duel monitors you would need to connect both the monitor’s cables to the back of your graphics card to the respective output ports. Once you do so you would have to go to your graphic card’s interface and click the “Extend my Windows desktop into this monitor” option. This will enable the second monitor as the extension of your first monitor.
• For those of you who don’t want to buy a switch box and do not have the option of connecting two cards you would need to buy a second video card. If your computer does not have a second video card slot you can buy a PCI video adapter to enable the second monitor. Once you connect the monitor to the different video cards you would need to restart the computer to enable duel monitors.

Now days you can even use two flat panel monitors of different sizes to form an extended desktop. This comes in handy if you are working on something and watching a movie. For example you could have a 22 inch LCD monitor and a 17 inch monitor. In this case you could watch a movie on the large monitor and work on a small one simultaneously.
