this is the best receiever. dont believe in when some review say that onkyo sr-875 get hot and ... . it took me more then two month to decide after reviewing lot of comments about receiever's from sony, onkyo, denon and more. most of the receiever has more then one problem and only onkyo had only one comments about heat. so i picked this one and i just put one small fan and this receiever is cool. no problem . you can tuch it no harm. sound and picture quality is reall good. and you can use receiever remote to control most of your device.

Purchased the TX-SR875 new from Amazon on Dec 12, 2007. On 17th of June 2008 the HDMI output failed. It was returned to the Onkyo DTR Service Center in Denver, CO and they received it July 1, 2008. They stated the expected turnaround time would be up to 3 weeks. It is now August 13th and each week I get the same answer, parts on backorder. I contacted Onkyo USA and they followed up with DTR. This time they said it would be SEVERAL weeks before the parts would be in. When I inquired about just getting a replacement unit rather than keeping a customer waiting for weeks open-ended... They refused. Meanwhile my entire media room is dead in the water waiting on this receiver. Would never buy from them again based on the terrible Customer Service. Will see if Amazon can offer any solutions.... We'll see.

The 875 puts out great sound and has tons of features. But, I bought this unit in large part for the Reon video chip and was not impressed. It changed, but did not improve the picture compared to my new sony w4100 tv. I did tons of research and noticed several bloggers said the same thing, and I learned the hard way they are right. So why spend the extra $550 compared to the sr606? There really is no reason for your typical home theater system. I returned it and bought the 606 which is fantastic, has plenty of power and has all the features you will need. The sr875 runs ridiculously hot and you will need fans to cool it if you want it to last. The 606 also runs a little hot but not as much. Hope this helps.

I received this as a gift and didn't open the box because I didn't have anywhere to put it until after the 30 days to return to Amazon expired. The CD/DVD drawer on the unit didn't work. I couldn't register the unit with Onkyo (required to get warranty work) because they didn't have a record of the serial number (?). The unit had a date of manufacture of 2005 - it was bought in mid-2007 so this was kind of odd. It was very difficult to get the unit in - the place was over fifty miles away and was open during work hours. Not only was the power unit broken and had to be replaced but the inside of the unit was dirty. There is a good chance I paid a new price for a refurbished unit that was never repaired. The stereo sounds good but now I hope nothing else goes wrong since the warranty expired before I heard it play the first CD.

I am happy I bought this set. It is versatile and has a fine sound. The unit is compact, the sound is full-sized. The good things I read in reviews of this item are true for the unit I received. Plus, I can not believe that what I hear in theater listening mode is coming from only two speakers.

Got mine for $93 on clearance at Circuit City who seems to have a policy of dropping everything at least 60% if it hangs around for a year or more. I originally thought of buying it at the previous sale of $199 but was glad I waited and got it for $106 less! This unit replaces a previous Onkyo that still played like a champ but couldn't handle SACD or MP3s, let alone video DVDs. So far, so good. Digests everythings I put in the CD drawer although it has a nasty tendency not to show how many songs are on a disk nor does it show titles and artists unless you know how to manipulate the remote for the on screen menu. Speaking of such, be aware that the remote is a monster of 50 or more buttons that Albert Einstein couldn't figure out. Sound reproduction is good and the CD player seems quiet with the only detected hiss being on an analog CD made from an old vinyl record (so I imagine most of the noise was from the vinyl original and not the CD). By the way, if you want deeper, booming bass than you had been opt for the subwoofer. Theatre mode does right fine for me in that respect. As always, a class act from Onkyo and, by the way, it comes with 1 year warranty! May not sound like much, but most only come with 90 days!
