Chateau Pontet-canet Pauillac 2009 750ml

This wine is from France, Bordeaux region, Haut Medoc sub-region and Pauillac appellation. 100 PTS - The Wine Advocate#199 (02/2012)Review by Robert M. Parker, Jr.An amazing wine in every sense, this classic, full-bodied Pauillac is the quintessential Pontet Canet from proprietor Alfred Tesseron, who continues to reduce yields and farms his vineyards biodynamically - a rarity in Bordeaux.Black as a moonless night, the 2009 Pontet Canet offers up notes of incense, graphite, smoke, licorice, creme de cassis and blackberries. A wine of irrefutable purity, laser-like precision, colossal weight and richness, and sensational freshness, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is capable of lasting 50 or more years. The tannins are elevated, but they are sweet and beautifully integrated as are the acidity, wood and alcohol (which must be in excess of 14%).This vineyard, which is situated on the high plateau of Pauillac adjacent to Mouton Rothschild, appears to have done everything perfectly in 2009. This cuvee should shut down in the cellar and re-open in a decade or more. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2075.97-100 PTS - The Wine Advocate #188 (04/2010)Review by Robert M. Parker, Jr.It's no surprise that proprietor Alfred Tesseron has produced a possibly perfect 2009. He's been on a roll since 1994, and no other producer has done more work in the vineyard than Tesseron, who has moved to 100% bio-dynamic farming, reduced yields drastically, and instituted a draconian selection process. This vineyard, which sits on the high plateau of Pauillac adjacent to Mouton Rothschild, has produced a 2009 of extraordinary intensity and purity. It is outrageously concentrated, with silky tannin (the sweetest I have ever tasted in a Pontet-Canet as well as the highest measured), an opaque purple color, and copious notes of graphite, cassis, licorice, and subtle smoke and forest floor. Full-bodied and unctuously textured with striking purity and definition, it is a wine of colossal weight as well as elegance (in itself a poster boy for this paradox in 2009). This brilliant Pauillac requires a decade of cellaring despite its voluptuous texture. It should evolve for 50-75 years. (Tasted four times.) BORDEAUX BLEND Wine FRENCH STILL WINE

Chateau Pontet-canet Pauillac 2008 750ml

This wine is from France, Bordeaux region, Haut Medoc sub-region and Pauillac appellation. Cinquiemes Crus Classes (Fifth Growths)96 PTS - The Wine AdvocateA candidate for the 'wine of the vintage,' Pontet Canet's 2008 boasts an opaque purple color as well as copious aromas of sweet blueberries, blackberries and black currant fruit intertwined with lead pencil shavings, subtle barbecue smoke and a hint of forest floor. Full-bodied, with fabulous richness, texture and tremendous freshness, this first-growth-like effort is more developed than the uber-powerful 2010. Give it 5-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the following three decades. Bravo!95 PTS - Wine EnthusiastSmooth, with dense tannins hidden behind the ripe, pure fruit, this important wine shows class and an impeccable balance of fruit and tannin. Rich as well as structured, this is a beautiful wine.94 PTS - International Wine CellarDeep ruby-red. Knockout nose combines black cherry, lavender, potpourri spices and graphite minerality; high-toned and slightly liqueur-like. Then dense, seamless and vibrant in the mouth, with firm acidity giving outstanding energy to the dark fruit, floral and mineral flavors. Really spreads out on the back end and stays a while. Brilliantly delineated, complex wine with superb cut and penetration.93 PTS - James SucklingI love the nose of sweet tobacco, currants, minerals, flowers, and stones. Full bodied, with dark chocolate flavors, silky tannins, and beautiful fruit. Long and beautiful, with a succulent finish and a great overall balance. Best in three or four years.92 PTS - Wine SpectatorQuite dense, but pure and fresh, with the core of fig, damson plum and mulled cherry fruit already well-defined and the back end of rounded loam and roasted cedar grip fully integrated. The finish is long and powerful. Best from 2013 through 2020.BackgroundChateau Pontet-Canet can trace its origins back to 1725, when Jean-Francois Pontet acquired the estate. In 1975 the property was sold to Guy Tesseron, of the Tesseron family, one of the finest exponents of luxury, very old, aged Cognacs. The vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (63%), Merlot (32%) and Cabernet Franc (5%). The Tesserons have vastly improved the quality of the Pontet-Canet wines which are now full-bodied and packed with ripe, chewy, black fruits and finely integrated tannins and posseses marvellous ageing potential. Pauillac 2010 750ml

This wine is from France, Bordeaux region, Haut Medoc sub-region and Pauillac appellation. 97 PTS - The Wine AdvocateBizarre as it may sound, the 2010 Les Forts de Latour is also the finest I have ever tasted from this selection, which comes from specific vineyards, not really so much a second wine as just another wine from estate holdings. A blend of 72.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27.5% Merlot that represents 40% of the production, this astonishing wine hit 14.3% natural alcohol. Extremely ripe and rich, it reminds me of the 1982 on steroids (and that wine is still drinking great 30 years after the vintage). Sensational notes of graphite, crushed rocks, black fruits, camphor and damp forest notes are present in this expansive, savory, full-throttle wine, which is better than many vintages of the great Latour itself from the past. (That may be a heretical statement, but it's the truth as I see it.) This wine needs a good 5-6 years of cellaring and should age for three decades at minimum, given the fact that the 1982 is in terrific form and wasn't this concentrated or prodigious. (2/2013) 96 PTS - James SucklingAromas of currants, blueberries and blackberries with a dark chocolate undertone. Perfumes and beautiful. Full body, with velvety tannins that are fine-tuned and tentative. It lasts for minutes. Gorgeous fruit and richness. Perhaps the greatest Les Fort ever? Try in 2018. (2/2013) 95 PTS - Wine SpectatorA solid, briary, grippy, tarry Pauillac, with a sappy edge to the kirsch, blackberry, plum skin and steeped fig notes, liberally laced with anise and tar. Shows good energy through the finish, with a cassis bush note echoing. Best from 2017 through 2035. (3/2013) 94 PTS - Wine EnthusiastPowerful, yet beautiful and smoothly structured. It has ripe, rich fruits, spice and sweet acidity. As a contrast, there is a dense core of tannins where the wine shows some severity and youth. (3/2013) 90 PTS - International Wine CellarDeep red. Sweet red cherry, cassis, cedar and graphite on the showy nose. Sweet and chewy in the mouth, with red fruit liqueur and Oriental spice elements carrying through on the tactile, long finish. Much better than the Pauillac, which is the estates third wine. (8/2013) BORDEAUX BLEND Wine FRENCH STILL WINE

Domaine Louis Jadot Pommard Les Rugiens 2010 750ml

This wine is from France, Burgundy region, Cote De Beaune sub-region and Pommard appellation. 93 PTS - BurghoundA pure, ripe, cool and elegant mix of red berries, stone, violet and plum aromas leads to vibrant, rich, powerful and concentrated broad-shouldered flavors that exude a fine minerality that continues onto the gorgeously long finish that is clean, dusty and moderately austere. - Allen Meadows (April 15, 2013)92(+) PTS - International Wine CellarBright medium red. Intensely spicy, perfumed aromas of red berries, iron, minerals, cardamom and flowers. Then almost shockingly supple on entry, offering a restrained sweetness to the flavors of raspberry, licorice and flowers. For all its pliancy, its also high-pitched, minerally and taut, and wonderfully light on its feet. - Stephen Tanzer (March 13, 2013)91 PTS - eRobert ParkerThe 2010 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens offers hints of oyster shell on the well-defined nose that blossom in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins.- Neal Martin (August 01, 2013)Winemakers NotesThe commune of Pommard produces only red wines, and has no Grands Crus. Les Rugiens consists of two parcels, Les Rugiens Haut and Les Rugiens Bas, based on their respectively higher and lower positions at the summit of the Pommard slope. Rugiens comes from the French word rouge, referring to the reddish soil in the vineyard, a result of high iron content. In winemaking, the Pinot Noir grapes are fermented in tanks for up to 4 weeks, and then the wine is matured in oak barrels for 12 to 15 months before bottling. PINOT NOIR Wine FRENCH STILL WINE

Pierre Morey Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots 2006 750ml

This wine is from France, Burgundy region, Cote De Beaune sub-region and Volnay appellation. Pierre Morey is considered one of Burgundy's finest and also one of its most prolific vignerons. In 1971, while in his early 20's, Pierre inherited the family estate which encompassed 19 owned acres and metayeur responsibilities for superbly placed 1er Cru and Grand Cru vineyards belonging to Domaine des Comtes Lafon. As his metayage contracts expired, Pierre took on more outside responsibility and in 1990, was appointed winemaker at the venerable Domaine Leflaive where he produced stunning, benchmark white Burgundies for 20 years. Upon his retirement, he and his daughter Anne founded Morey-Blanc, a negociant company. Pierre's eponymous 27 acre domaine includes holdings in Monthelie, Pommard, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault and the vineyards are farmed using biodynamic practices. At Morey-Blanc, Pierre and Anne share responsibilities and have slowly and carefully expanded the portfolio. They currently produce wines from some of the most respected vineyards in the Cote d'Or, including Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Aloxe-Corton, Meursault Charmes and Saint-Aubin. Production remains small, highly selective and reasonably priced. . Even though this wine is Volnay Santenots, it is produced from grapes grown entirely in Meursault. The vineyard is in the Les Petures lieu-dit, located at the southern end of Volnay and over the border into Les Santenots-du-Milieu. The vines were planted in 1970 to shallow, fine-grained red soils. Originally made from purchased fruit and bottled as Morey-Blanc, the wine has been bottled under the Domaine label since the 2004 vintage after the plot was purchased by the Morey family. Allying finesse, elegance and richness, Santenots is velvety, soft in the mouth and heady. PINOT NOIR Wine French Still Wine

Albert Bichot Savigny-les-beaune Les Peuillets 750ml

This wine is from France, Burgundy region, Cote De Beaune sub-region and Savigny Les Beaune appellation. Savigny is a typical old Burgundy wine-making village a few hundred yards away from the north of Beaune. Today, the Savigny-les-Beaune appellation is shared between the cultivation of Chardonnay and the majority varietal Pinot Noir. It groups together 22 vineyards classified under Premier Cru, one of which is the famous Les Peuillets . Planted on a clay-and-limestone soil on hard Callovian limestone bedrock called ”pearled flagstones”, the Les Peuillets Premier Cru vineyard is just on the limits of the Beaune appellation at an average altitude of 250 metres (820 ft). The land here is on gentle slopes orientated south-southeast, providing ideal exposure to the sun, which ensures full ripening of the grapes.. To the eye, this Savigny les Beaune les Peuillets is very seductive with its palette of deep red with garnet reflections. The nose is fruity with black and red fruit aromas leading on to more discreet spicy notes. The well-structured mouth evolves onto a complex finish with more gamey and well-blended oak.. An ideal wine with grilled meat (beef filet with red wine sauce, duck with cranberries) or a beautiful cheese platter with Abbey-produced cheese such as Citeaux de Bourgogne.Serving and keepingServe between 16C - 18C (60F - 64F)Laying : Drink while young for the fruitiness or lay for a dozen-or-so years to allow the more gamey and spicy notes to develop.
