Insignia 2010 750ml

This wine is from United States, California region, Napa County sub-region and Napa Valley appellation. With the release of the 1974 Insignia in the spring of 1978, Joseph Phelps Vineyards became the first California winery to produce a blend of the traditional Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grape varieties of Bordeaux under a proprietary label. Considered innovative at the time, the Insignia name was selected to represent the finest available production in each vintage year, and became the first proprietary wine of California to place blending above either varietal or vineyard designation as a determinant of quality. It would not be followed until a decade later by the second such wine, Opus One, and Insignia has remained the benchmark of this category for over a quarter century.Insignia is an opulent wine of concentration, complexity and structure, with a superb balance of finely tuned acidity and dense, velvety tannins. Cassis, liquorice and spice are abundant on the palate, with notes of eucalyptus and earth. The finish is sweet, elegant and extended.. A gorgeously intense bouquet of lead pencil shavings, spring flowers, black currants, blackberries, and subtle smoke and foresty aromas jumps from the glass of this full-bodied, rich, concentrated wine with soft tannins, a multidimensional mouthfeel, and a long, rich finish displaying well-integrated acidity, tannin, alcohol and wood. This beauty is one of the top Insignias produced over recent years. It should age easily for 20+ years. The stunning 2010 Insignia, which is now in bottle, was made from 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and the rest Merlot and Malbec, 11,060 cases were produced, and it achieved 14.9% natural alcohol. All of the fruit came from estate vineyards. BORDEAUX BLEND Wine CALIFORNIA STILL WINE

This wine is from Italy, Piedmont region, Barolo sub-region. The history of the Vietti winery traces its roots back to the 19th Century. The estate, which has been in the Vietti family for four generations, is based in the village of Castiglione Falletto in Piedmont’s Langhe region. In 1919 Mario Vietti transformed the family’s farm into a grape growing and wine producing business, creating the first Vietti labeled wines. Alfredo Currado married Mario’s daughter Luciana and made a name for Vietti’s single-vineyard Barolo and Barbera. He also put the native Piedmont varietal Arneis on the wine map. In 1990 Alfredo and Luciana’s son Luca joined the family business as winemaker after working at California’s Simi Winery, Opus One and Long Vineyards, and Bordeaux’s Mouton- Rothschild. His innovative winemaking utilizes a unique combination of modern and traditional practices. He eliminated equipment that measures acid and tannin levels in favor of a more intuitive approach.
