This wine is from United States, California region, Sonoma County sub-region. California Zinfandel aficionados have long revered bottlings of the varietal from the legendary Monte Rosso Vineyard in the Sonoma Valley AVA. Located on the southwest side of the Mayacamas mountain range, near the town of Agua Caliente, vineyard elevations range from 700 to 1,240 feet. The name Monte Rosso means ‘red mountain', which is quite apparent if you look at the color of the ground soil, it is truly red. Several blocks of old-vine Zinfandel planted as early as 1890, are still bearing. Now owned by Gallo, this prestigious vineyard is sought after by many, but only garnered by a few lucky folks. Our block in the beautiful Monte Rosso Vineyard has 108-year-oldvines and is located about 1600 feet above Sonoma Valley on Moon Mountain. The mountain is all red soil from the iron and clay deposits. If you are a vine, this is a great place to grow. ZINFANDEL Wine California Still Wine

This wine is deep red to purple in color, the nose has cherry, red and black raspberry, currant and touches of licorice and chocolate. Like the past vintages, the wine is concentrated in the mouth that shows caramel, black pepper and cloves. The final taste profile brings the nose and mouth feel all together with a wonderful hint of ginger and fresh mixed fruits. This wine will develop nicely in 2 to 3 years, but right now dont miss the youthfulness of all the red and black fruits blending with a touch of vanilla from new oak barrels. This wine is from United States, California region, Napa County sub-region and Napa Valley appellation. 96 PTS - Wine & SpiritsThe scent of this wine is worth the price of admission, a combination of sage, sun and wet rock, of forest pines and dark red fruit. It reminded Wolfgang Weber, one of our panelists, of hiking in the North Coast, in the morning, when the sun burns off the dew and picks up the scents of plant resins. The fragrance may round the wine in the Napa Valley hills, but the texture is pure benchland, about as silky as a wine can be...a deliciously plump Zinfandel, the kind of dynamic red wine that proves Napa Valleys greatness.Winemaker's NotesHendry blocks 7 and 22 are located on benchlands west of the town of Napa. The nine acres are between 230 and 300 feet above sea level and have thin, stony Boomer series soils. The maritime climate is moderated by morning fog and strong afternoon breezes from San Pablo Bay.Pretty initial aromas of soft cocoa, cassis, spice and violet. Mouthwatering, balanced sour cherry, berry and currant and persistent acid, balanced by mild, fine-grained tannins. With slightly higher acid and lower tannins than Block 28, 7&22 is a natural partner for Italian plates like pasta Bolognese or goat cheese and eggplant lasagna, as well as anything barbecued or grilled.
