Cherry blossom and rosewater perfume immediately abound from glass on 2011 Savoy Pinot Noir. Beautiful graphite, licorice and white pepper spice are also apparent. A velvety mouthfeel leads straight into flavors of raspberry, cranberry tart and cocoa. soft to medium tannin is almost pushed over by crisp firm acidity.
Bright and enchanting, 2012 Signature Viognier opens with a perfume of tropical flowers, ginger and freesia - evocative of a stroll through a Hawaiian flower market at the height of summer. Temptingly juicy, bright and rather unctuous, the flavors span... 750

The 2010 Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert, which I raved about last year, is slightly better than their brilliant 2009. It boasts a dense purple color along with a beautiful perfume of camphor, licorice, forest floor, black currants and Christmas... 750
Fresh and candied cherry and red raspberry accompanied by black tea smokiness, lily-of-the-valley perfume, and an odd but not at all unpleasant note of fish oil rise from the glass of the Desvignes’s September-bottled 2011 Morgon La Voute Saint... 750
The colour is ruby red with reflexes verging on garnet. The perfume is intense, fine and elegant, with notes of cherries preserved in alcohol, enriched with spices redolent of cinnamon and cloves. On the palate it explodes in all its fineness and... 750
The red wines begin with the 2008 El Templari, a blend of 55% Garnacha and 45% Morenillo aged in French oak for 14 months. It gives up an enticing perfume reminiscent of Pinot Noir (no doubt from the Morenillo component). Savory, intense, and already... 750

This latest offering of Leviathan captures spirit and flavor of a great California vintage. Dark color, effusive perfume, and rich, long flavors and textures. When navigating enological seas, there are some journeys that require sophisticated instrumentation. Some vintages are fraught with danger, rough seas complicating voyage. Others are blessed with clear skies, calm seas, and a sense of optimism and adventure. 2012 was one of these bright, hopeful journeys, with load after load of beautiful fruit arriving at port. It was as if one could sail through night with only constellations as guide. Blend: 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 16% Merlot, 14% Syrah Vinous / Antonio Galloni rating: 92.
Effusive lime zest, pippin apple, mace (nutmeg skin), hazelnut, warm stones and subtle, smoky oak perfume nose. Fresh, rich, round pippin apple, Anjou pear, mace and creme brulee flavors expand into a bright, crisp, minerally and slightly smoky finish of uncommon length and verve. Pair this Big Chardonnay with grilled salmon, sword fish, halibut, sea bass or tuna steaks. Roast chicken, squab, or pork loin too. A serious lobster or Monterey Bay prawns wine. crisp acidity is a natural for pasta with creme sauces.
Hagan Vineyard perches high above edge of continent fully facing cold Pacific Ocean on esteemed Taylor Lane west of Occidental. Dramatic, awe-inspiring and windswept, it produces wines of extraordinary complexity and perfume. Red Car leased this twelve acre vineyard in 2011. We made a thirty year commitment before half vines even bore fruit and are proud to have utilized organic farming practices from vineyard's inception. Along tiny ridgeline of Taylor Lane are some of most revered Pinot Noir vineyards in country, including Summa Vineyard (plot that put cool climate California Pinot Noir on world map), Theiriot Vineyard from Littorai, and Evening Land's Occidental Vineyard. Here, at end of road just past these revered sites, lies our newest estate property. Vinous / Antonio Galloni rating: 90.
Evangelho Vineyard-Contra Costa County: Lies just inland from Sacramento River Delta on banks of sand that can reach 40 feet in depth. Though a warm area there is rarely a day that passes without a serious wind - very much like a Californian Mistral and antecedent to fog coming through Golden Gate - racing through vineyard. Crackling red fruit of Carignane, unctuousness of Zinfandel, and terrestrial perfume of Mourvedre is held aloft by an underlying brightness. Yet another unique terroir only found in this great State. Vinous / Antonio Galloni rating: 93.
Kyndall's Reserve Chardonnay is a delightful treat to taste buds. Aromas abound of lemon zest and pineapple with floral perfume hints of white rose pedals and honey. A seamless mouth-feel and a round full body at mid-palate, this Chardonnay has notes of crisp bright green apple. Coconut creme pie, pineapple and grapefruit extend out long ripe finish. Enjoy Kyndall's Chardonnay with a tasty seasoned white fish or a savory quiche. Wine Enthusiast rating: 91.
2012 Oak Ridge Vineyard has a seriousness and confidence in nose. Much like a gracefully aging movie star from 40's. Hints of white roses and gardenias, yet with an exotic mysteriousness of roasted ginger, nutmeg and cumin. Incredibly interesting and complex nose. mouthfeel backs up aromatic descriptors with even more power and confidence. Like a beautifully classic and complex perfume, filling mouth with white flowers, exotic spices, and ripe fruits, kumquat and apricots. I love texture of this wine. It has classic girth and viscosity of Gewurtz, but it remains elegant and light on its feet, with wonderful balance and a fresh lift on finish. Mexican food makes a good pairing here, with spicy pork, chorizo and shredded beef. Indian food of course, and any serious dish where exotic spices play a role.
Condrieu is original home of Viognier vine and is source of one of world's most exotic white wines. tiny, parcelated appellation (500 acres total) is located on steep hillsides beginning at a bend in Rhone river just south of Cote Rotie and continuing intermittently about 12 miles further south. Marcel Guigal supplements production of his own Condrieu vineyards with grapes purchased from numerous small growers, vinifying two thirds of wine in stainless steel and remainder in new barriques. delicately elusive perfume suggests pears, spice, and honeysuckle, while on palate wine is surprisingly rich and full-bodied, a wine for both intellect and senses. Condrieu may be enjoyed as aperitif with foie gras, lobster and other rich seafoods, and white asparagus. Wine Spectator rating: 93.
The Wine Advocate rating: 96. wine of princes, she is velvet, seduction and mystery. It is most proustian of all great wines: concealed in secret perfume of fading rose petals in a Romanee-Conti 1956, is it not intense and pure sensation of past recaptured which arrests us and enchant us.
