Mountain King 29in Tire - Clincher One Color, Performance - 29 x 2.2 Fold BW

29ers are made for speed, but they can't do it alone. Without the right tire, 29-inch wheels are just metal hoops. Not ideal for anything but trundling. The Continental Mountain King 29er Tire is designed to take full advantage of a wheel's speedy properties, because riding on a big rim is a lot more fun than the alternative. This is the Performance version of the Mountain King, which aims for the ideal cross-country ride courtesy of its Conti Pure Grip compound construction. Pure Grip sits just below Black Chili in Continental's compound family tree, and its key benefit is, as you might have guessed, grip. It's not just purely about grip, though. The compound is durable and long-lasting. The low-profile center knobs, with their self-cleaning, open tread design, complement Pure Grip's cross-country properties by reducing rolling resistance. The Continental Mountain King 29-inch Performance Tire is a clincher with a folding bead. It's available in two sizes, 29 x 2. 2 and 29 x 2. 4.

Mountain King TIre - 27.5in

Particularly shrewd at shedding mud, the open-spaced 2. 4in-wide Continental Mountain King is a perfect tire for 27. 5in bikes bound for wet and loose terrain. It's equipped with Black Chili rubber and a ProTection casing too, so scree fields full of sharp rocks won't slow this tire down. ProTection is a continuous, high-strength rubberized nylon wrap that encompasses the entire casing. This puts three plies of rubber at the sidewall and four beneath the tread for excellent durability and strength. The Mountain King's tread is designed to dig first and foremost, but that doesn't mean it's a drag on hardpact. Conti's Black Chili compound is estimated to decrease rolling-resistance by 26%, have a higher friction value of 30%, and to increase durability by 5%. It does through the use of tiny fragments of embedded carbon. The Continental Mountain King 27. 5in Tire is foldable and available in a 2. 4in width.

Mountain King Tire - 26in

This is not the 2010 Mountain King ProTection. Nor is it the rockin' Mountain King UST, or Mountain King Race Sport. Head spinning yet? Don't sweat it. The reason for the similar naming convention is that Mountain King indicates a tread pattern, and each additional feature that comes with that pattern is tagged on. Think of it like the displacement of a motor added to the name of a car, and you have the gist of it. So first, Mountain King indicates Continental's extraordinary, open-spaced Mountain King tread pattern, which is particularly astute at mud shedding, but it's now revised with stiffer side knobs for enhanced cornering on hard pack. And in the case of the ProTection, it's a lower volume, and therefore lighter (by 230g), package than its big-volume, Mountain King UST, brother. That makes the ProTection a little faster rolling as well, but as the name would indicate, also better armored against punctures. Why? Well, because it's a four-ply tire, not a three-ply, and that extra ProTection tech comes in the form of a continuous, high-strength rubberized nylon wrap that encompasses the entire casing. This puts three plies of rubber at the sidewall and four beneath the tread. Note as well that this is not the same knob pattern as the first generation Mountain King ProTection. This second generation tire trades that race-specific, low-knob pattern for far more aggressive knobs. The Mountain King tire will also corner better in wet mud, because its side knobs are taller than on the older tire design. The Black Chili compound (tiny fragments of embedded carbon) improves grip by allowing faster rubber deformation, so you get a sensation of the tire clinging through corners rather than suddenly breaking loose. Black Chili is estimated by Continental to decrease rolling-resistance by 26%, have a higher friction value of 30%, and to increase durability by 5%. The Continental Mountain King 26-inch Tire is available with a 2. 4-inch width. It's also foldable, wei...

Ignitor Mountain Bike Tire - 29in

The Maxxis Ignitor 29-inch Tire first rolled onto the scene about 10 years ago, making it one of the first 29er tires available. It's stuck around this long for a number of reasons, including its ready-for-anything tread pattern, and the fact that the Ignitor continues to roll fast with two casing options. Both Ignitors use Maxxis' Aramid folding bead, all-round proficient 70a durometer rubber, and ramped pentagonal knobs. But, the F60 SC uses a 60 tpi nylon casing and the F120 SC eXC/EXO has a 120 tpi nylon casing. The latter adds 100 grams to the tire's mass, but gives a more supple ride over varied terrain. Usually, higher tpi counts result in a lighter tire, however, in this instance, Maxxis' EXO protection adds an extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material to the sidewalls. While this increases weight, the added puncture protection is much appreciated and the EXO is highly flexible to ensure performance remains unaffected. As stated above, the Ignitor continues to use ramped pentagonal knobs, earning it ample traction in almost any riding conditions. The Maxxis Ignitor Mountain Bike Tire - 29in has a clincher bead and comes in an XC-friendly 2. 1in width.
