Black Panther CX Tire

Three distinct rubber compounds allow the Black Panther CX Tire to balance grip and efficiency in a variety of off-road conditions. It's the same TriComp X concept found on Vredestein's high-end road tires, just adapted to give cyclocross racers a competitive edge. Vredestein is known for obsessing over the compositions of its rubber compounds and the way that they're applied to specific zones of the tire. It calls this Tricomp X technology, as testing has shown Vredestein engineers where specific rubber compounds and tread patterns work to provide the lowest rolling-resistance and maximum grip in all weather conditions. By using different compounds in the tread and shoulder, and combining this with a knob structure specifically suited to these compounds, the tire provides a well-balanced blend of speed, grip, and low overall weight. The compound is enhanced by a semi-smooth, connected center tread in order to ensure a reduction in lug flex. Accordingly, the tread pattern provides a smooth sense of rolling and acceleration on hard-packed courses. However, when things get loose, the multiple rows of nicely spaced side knobs bite to keep you upright. Adding to this, the tire's 33mm-width and asymmetric shoulder cleats further encourage hard cornering, low rolling-resistance, and optimal mud-shedding. The tire also features Vredestein's proprietary SEC rubber compound and a 120 TPI casing. Essentially, this means that the casing is comprised of 120 threads per inch. Along these lines, you'll notice that the casing's TPI equates to finer-grade fibers used in its composition. Accordingly, the fine fibers are more malleable than a full rubber casing, and this flexibility creates a more adaptable interface for the tire's rubber contact surface during cornering. So, this design provides a higher level of grip, while also contributing to a low-level of rolling resistance. This equates directly to both comfort and speed. Black Panther XTRAC TRL K Tire - Tubeless One Color, 29x2.0 nls

The Dutch tires masters over at Vredestein crafted the Black Panther XTRAC TRL K Tire to be a faster-rolling version of its aggressive Black Panther XTREME tire. A less tacky compound and more tightly-packed knobs with a semi-continuous central rib of blocks keeps exceptional speed on semi-hardpack or loamy conditions. It's not a dedicated hardpack XC-racing tire, but it capably rolls the line between XC all-out speed and loose-terrain grip. It's available in one color and in the 29 x 2. 0" size only.

Ardent Race Tire - 27.5

The Ardent tire from Maxxis is one of the company's best-selling slabs of rubber, in no small part because of its incredible versatility on virtually any type of terrain. Recognizing the potential in the tread pattern for even greater speed, however, engineers got to tweaking it and ended up producing a tire so fast it threatened to cannibalize their race-ready Aspen tire. That tire is the Maxxis Ardent Race Tire, seen here in 27. 5-inch guise. Those familiar with the original Ardent tire will certainly be able to draw some visual familiarity between the two models, while also being able to clearly tell which of the two earns the "Race" designation. The Ardent Race takes the standard Ardent's tread pattern and condenses it, with tighter spacing between now-shallower knobs, to create a faster-rolling contact patch, although the profile and job functions of those knobs are basically the same. Small, ramped central knobs keep straight-line rolling fast, and shoulder knobs deriving in design from the Maxxis High Roller and other of the company's high-speed gravity tires bestow the Ardent Race tire with comparable levels of cornering grip for hardpack or semi-loose conditions. Unlike the regular Ardent, the Ardent Race isn't quite ready for extreme mudslinging or very loose loam, but for everything on the firmer side of the spectrum, the Ardent Race is ready. A 120 threads-per-inch casing keeps the ride smoother than the 90, 60, or 30tpi casings of many competitors, with more threads ready to contour to the trail. Maxxis's Triple-C Maxx Speed compound used for the tread pattern is a blend of three different rubber densities assigned to areas of the tread where they will perform best. Finally, take confidence in knowing that Maxxis' TR Tubeless-Ready casing is one of the toughest and most reliable in the business. The EXO version of each tire includes Maxxis's EXO sidewall protection, which is a densely-woven layer of especially tough fabric that's integrated into t...

Ardent Race Tire - 29

It's true that Maxxis makes its beloved Ardent tire in a 29-inch diameter. However, a common bit of feedback that the company fielded about the tire was that it just wasn't quite fast enough to race on harder courses, as per so many 29-inch mountain bike riders. Not one to leave holes in its lineup, Maxxis got to tweaking the Ardent's tread pattern to be lighter, tighter, and faster for 29-inch XC racers and trail riders who wanted the Ardent's toughness and do-it-all capability, but needed a bit more flat-out speed. The result? The Maxxis Ardent Race 29-Inch Tire. PDX Tire - Tubular

If mud is on the menu for your next cyclocross race, look no further than the proven Clement PDX Tubular tire. Clement has been perfecting the PDX's tread for years, and when smartly wrapped around a durable casing, it becomes the weapon of choice for seasoned 'crossers who don't want to get bogged down. With taller, more widely spaced knobs than Clement's revered, all-conditions MXP, the PDX has its focus on looser, wetter courses -- it is, after all, named after the city of Portland, Oregon, with its avid cyclocross culture and notoriously nasty course conditions. The semi-connected center rib provides just enough of a rudder in the mud to keep things straight, while also keeping rolling resistance relatively low when you hit the pavement or hardpack. Move to the shoulder, and the siped, square-edged knobs bite aggressively, both in the turns and when the tire sinks into softer earth. The PDX's low 370g weight can be attributed to the casing's lack of a dedicated inner tube layer -- the casing itself is instead airtight, which keeps the tire light and keeps ride quality smooth. Fear not for durability, however, because the PDX's sidewalls are not only reinforced, but coated in the same layer of rubber from which the tread is cast, meaning there's a uniform jacket of rubber hugging the entire exposed portion of the tire, further protecting sidewalls and keeping the tread from peeling away from the casing. Just in case the worst happens, the tire's valve cores are also removable so you can repair it via liquid sealant. It all equates to a tire that's ready for gnarliest conditions, courses, and riders out there. The Clement PDX Tubular tire comes in the size 700c x 33mm and in the color Black.
