Unknown Known Blu-ray Disc

In THE UNKNOWN KNOWN award-winning documentarian Errol Morris turns his camera on the career of Donald Rumsfeld who served in numerous executive positions throughout his career in Washington D.C. but most famously as Secretary of Defense in the first decade of the 21st century. During his tenure at that job he helped orchestrate the Iraq War and became a controversial figure for many of the things that transpired under his watch. Morris uses his typical stylized approach -- including first-hand interviews with Rumsfeld himself -- and a wealth of archival footage to delineate how his subject's public statements and private actions did not always reconcile. THE UNKNOWN KNOWN screened at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.

Clockwork Orange Special Edition Blu-ray Disc

From its opening shot of Malcolm McDowell staring with evil intent directly into the camera which pulls back to reveal him drinking a glass of milk Stanley Kubrick's brilliant A CLOCKWORK ORANGE announces itself as a completely new kind of viewing experience. The film set in an unidentified future overwhelms the senses with its almost comic depictions of rape and violence set to an upbeat classical and pop music score. Kubrick based his chilling masterpiece on Anthony Burgess's culture-shaking novel about a young man growing into adulthood but unable to shake his huge problem with authority figures. The first part of the film shows Alex a career-defining performance by McDowell and his "droogs" his cohorts indulging in what they refer to as "a little bit of the old ultraviolence." After establishing Alex and co. as unremitting psychopaths Kubrick's movie changes tact and shows Alex getting caught and forced to undergo controversial treatment that will make it impossible for him to commit violent acts leading to a fascinating ending to the film. A CLOCKWORK ORANGE purposely confuses crime and punishment cause and effect hero and villain irony and satire and many other concepts creating a truly unique work of art in the process. Its magnificent colorful futuristic set designs and utter determination to shock frighten and thoroughly entertain left audiences reeling in the '70s. Kubrick even withdrew the film from distribution in the UK after reading newspaper reports of people dressing up as Alex and his Droogs and meting out their own brand of ultraviolence it was subsequently rereleased after his death. One thing is for sure: No one who has seen it has ever been able to hear "Singin' in the Rain" or Beethoven again in quite the same way.

Good Night, And Good Luck Blu-ray Disc

With GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK George Clooney delivers a riveting account of a crucial chapter in 20th-century American history and in the process firmly establishes himself as a major force behind the camera as well. The crisply paced tautly scripted docudrama recounts the events of the mid-1950s leading up to acclaimed CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow's David Strathairn decision to stand up against fiery Senator Joseph McCarthy who was out to rid the country of communism. McCarthy's seemingly reckless behavior in which he condemned individuals without giving them a fair trial angered Murrow and his producer Fred Friendly Clooney into action. The resulting few episodes of Murrow's show SEE IT NOW found Murrow on a personal patriotic crusade to challenge McCarthy and rid America of his callous persecution. Set almost entirely inside the smoke-filled pressurized newsrooms at CBS Clooney's assured picture moves at a breakneck pace. Cinematographer Robert Elswit miraculously recreates the black-and-white look of that era giving the film an added air of legitimacy. And while Clooney and co-screenwriterproducer Grant Heslov wisely chose to use stock footage of McCarthy instead of finding an actor to fill his shoes they couldn't have found a better Murrow than Strathairn who delivers his lines with heroic conviction. Clooney's stellar ensemble cast also includes Ray Wise Patricia Clarkson Robert Downey Jr. Jeff Daniels and Frank Langella.

Under the Sea 3D/2D Blu-ray Disc

Actor Jim Carrey is the narratortourguide for a stunning journey into the world's most beautiful and remote coral reefs. With his amazing underwater Imax camera director Howard Hall travels to Papua New Guinea Indonesia Australia's Great Barrier Reef and some of the world's most isolated spots in order to bring audiences truly jaw-dropping visual experiences. Great white sharks swim right up sting rays flap sand all over and there's up-close and personal time with sea lions sea turtles clown fish nautilus and dwarf whales and the leafy-looking sea dragon at such close proximity these creatures make typical movie monsters seem pretty tame. The sealife can be hypnotic in the clear flowing waves--as in the dance of the cuttlefish or the fields of eels--but beware of sudden attacks from well-camouflaged predators like the spiny scorpion fish. Hall is a pro photographer of these Imax soirees having also helmed DEEP SEA and INTO THE DEEP and his great patience skill and obvious love for his subject matter pay off in fully immersive images that add urgency to the film's serious environmental concerns: acidification and global warming are endangering the reefs and action must be taken if these creatures are to survive into the future.
