Fall coats, jackets & winter accessories
The start of fall means it’s time to breakout the winter jackets, sweaters, and scarves. In the market for a new jacket or coat? We here at Become have made it easy for shoppers to find the latest styles all in one easy resource. Hopefully you’ll find the new jacket of your dreams.
The Jacket - Refined blazers, cadet jackets, leather bomber jackets, motorcycle jackets or asymmetrical jackets, whatever your style is, the Jacket is a must for any fashionista’s wardrobe. Leather, suede, wool, fleece, whatever material you prefer there’s a great jacket out there for you.
Black motorcycle jacket:
If you’re looking for a motorcycle jacket this season designers have come up with hot, trendy cropped leather jackets that can be perfectly paired with a pair of jeans and black boots. Some great picks to consider are a black motorcycle jacket as well as Ann Taylor Loft’s leather motorcycle jacket. If you love the style but you aren't a fan of leather don’t feel left out. Designers have created motorcycle jackets for you too!
Wool motorcycle jacket:
If you aren't a fan of leather jackets you can try wool jackets. Check out a wool motorcycle jacket for a warm motorcycle jacket style without being made of leather. These jackets are warmer than leather and easier to wash than leather.
Cadet and captain jackets:
Cadet and captain jackets are also popular this fall. These double-breasted jackets with decorative buttons bring a unique and polished look to every ensemble. With different materials and variations out, there are so many to choose from. A cadet jacket is perfect for a night out on a cold fall evening!
Women's toggle coats:
For those needing more warmth this season, designers are loving women's toggle coats: If you’re looking for a popular style beyond the basic wool pea coat then perhaps it’s time to consider the toggle coat. Depending on the climate you live in, toggle coats come in varying lengths from short jacket length to longer coat length. Sometimes known as a “stadium coat,” the toggle coat can come in a variety of colors. A navy toggle coat is a great way to enjoy the fall weather!
With the cooler weather it also means finding warm accessories. One of the big trends this season is the infinity scarf (sometimes called the eternity scarf). This circular or tube-like scarf can be worn multiple ways and be wrapped several times around the neck depending on the look and the amount of warmth you’re in need of. Other scarf trends include scarves with adornments such as pompoms or fringe, things to give it a little extra spice (and maybe something nice).
Juicy Couture velour shopping bag:
Don't forget to accessorize with a stylish handbag straight from the fall and winter lines. The soft and luxurious Juicy Couture velour shopping bag is a favorite among young women. It's got the name, the style and the affordability to make it a staple in every young woman's closet.
Fall and winter sweaters and hoodies
West Coast and Southern fall and winters are nothing like the ones in the Midwest or East Coast. People fortunate enough to live in the warm and airy climate of places like California, Arizona and New Mexico know that it never gets cold enough to justify buying a heavy winter coat like a wool pea coat or long trench coat. For the most part, it never gets colder than 45 degrees Fahrenheit (7 degrees Celsius) at night in the colder seasons so lighter jackets and sweaters are all one needs to stay warm here!
Adidas 3 stripe track jacket:
Light zip up track jackets, athletic pullovers and fleece are adequate to keep the elements at bay for warmer climate dwellers. Zip up track jackets, also known a speed jackets or windbreakers, are typically made of lightweight, waterproof material to be both comfortable, breathable and dry. Quickly making its way into the urban fashion scene, kick it in style with a classic Adidas 3 stripe track jacket or a Puma track jacket.
Puma track jacket:
A Puma track jacket is lightweight and comfortable. But for a jacket that's a bit warmer and cozier than a Puma jacket, one could try a fleece jacket. Fleece provides lightweight insulation and comfort. You can wear a fleece sweater or jacket by itself or under a thicker coat. A perennial fleece favorite is the North Face Denali jacket.
If you are looking for an easy way to add a pop of color to your fall and winter outfits, cardigans offer protection from the elements as well as an option to wear your spring and summer tops in the colder seasons. If you can’t let go of your tank tops and short sleeve shirts, throwing on a cardigan is a simple way to allow you to wear your favorite fashions longer. Pair your top with one of many cardigans hot off the runways of the hottest Fall designer lines. Michelle Obama’s signature belted women's cardigan look is a sophisticated and pulled-together look that is surprisingly easy to achieve.
Women's J.Crew cardigans:
J.Crew, one of First Lady Obama’s fashion staples, carries a wide range of women's J.Crew cardigans in all shapes and sizes. Throw one over a plain white button down and use a skinny thin belt to cinch your waist. Women's J.Crew cardigans work well with jeans, dresses, skirts and almost any other piece of clothing you can think of.
This children’s favorite is making a stylish comeback. Urban street wear designers are updating the classic hoodie with cool graphic and unique details to turn this athletic wear into urban couture. For women, hoodies are getting slimmer and more form fitting to highlight a more feminine silhouette. Modern women's hoodies from the Fall and Winter 2010 fashion lines feature unusual materials like lace and cashmere with offbeat detailing like military epaulets and basket weaves. And not all hoodies are created equal! With the rising popularity in double breasted military style coats, military hoodies have been popping up all over the place. Men's and women's military hoodies feature gold buttons with fantastic gold threading. Another hoodie trend on the rise is patterned hoodies. Ikat hoodies are a favorite among both genders!
Boots and shoes for fall and winter
This fall it’s all about tall, over-the-knee boots . Thigh-high boots are sexy and warm. These boots can be dressed up with a warm trench coat or dressed down by wearing them over a pair of skinny jeans, à la Kate Moss.
Tall riding boots:
This season’s designers have created versions of their riding boots that go above the knee. When paired with tights and a cute mini-skirt this look is super stylish. Many of the available tall riding boots are able to be cuffed down to knee-high length. Depending on your wardrobe, consider getting a pair of brown boots. They look great with denim and if you’re feeling adventurous can even pair them with black!
Jessica Simpson tall boots:
Some other tall boots to consider are Jessica Simpson tall boots. Other brands offering the same style includes Lucky, Guess, BCBGeneration and many others. However, if you’re looking for an over the knee boot with a heel, all the designers are offering the chic and sleek look of over the knee boots. There are many over the knee boots to check out on Become!
The trend from last fall is making an appearance again this year! Short boots and ankle booties look great paired with tights, leggings, or even jeans. Their versatility has made them a popular item in women’s closets across the country regardless of the winter climate they endure.
Ankle boots are fabulous shoes. These boots can be worn in the summer with floral dresses and shorts or in the winter with tights or jeans. You can find cowboy style ankle boots, ballerina style ankle boots or even construction worker style ankle boots.
Moisturizers: face & body
With cold, harsh, winter weather make sure you moisturize in order to avoid dry skin. If you use a light lotion during the spring and summer it’s best to switch to a heavier lotion for the winter months. But with all the moisturizers and creams out there, how do you know which lotion or moisturizer is right for you? Here are some things to consider when picking out a moisturizer:
Face and body: It’s often a good idea to have a facial moisturizer as well as a body moisturizer.
Cream: For rougher areas of skin consider a cream. Creams can often provide more moisturizer for those rougher patches of skin.
Skin type: Keep your skin type in mind. If your skin tends to be on the naturally dry side consider a moisturizer that provides extra moisturizer for drier skin.
UV protection: Just because it is winter doesn’t mean you shouldn’t find a moisturizer with UV protection. Keep in mind that snow reflects the sun's rays.
Facial cleanser: Aside from a moisturizer it is important to make sure your daily facial cleanser isn’t too harsh on your skin. A cleanser that is too harsh will strip your skin of its natural ability to battle the elements and lock in moisture.
Vaseline Intensive Care:
The Vaseline Intensive Care line of products is from a household name that people trust and this lotion doesn’t let you down when it comes to helping your skin battle the elements. Some of the main ingredients of this product includes collagen, Pro-Retinol and SPF-5. These ingredients will keep your skin moist and youthful.
Eucerin Aquaphor cream:
Eucerin is a commonly recommended cream by dermatologists. They have various creams depending on how dry your skin is. A commonly recommended product for dry skin is their Eucerin Aquaphor cream which works even on the driest of dry skins. This cream is fragrance-free, hypo-allergenic and ideal for sensitive or irritated skin.
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream:
For cream just for your face, try Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. It is a scent-free, nighttime moisturizer that is not tested on animals. This moisturizer can also be used during the day for very dry skin. Your skin will love drinking this stuff up!
Winter chapped lip care tips
As the weather moves from a cool autumn breeze and gets colder, the air will start getting drier. This means that your lips will feel more taught and may crack and split. And though you may get the urge to lick them, you shouldn’t as your saliva will make your lips more susceptible to the wind and elements. So your temporary relief will quickly make your lips more wind chapped and drier than before! Fall and winter season lip care requires both a lip moisturizer and a lip protectant to lock the moisture in and keep the elements out. Here are a few tips depending on the state of your lips:
Seasonal dry lips are characterized by a mild tightness and blistered skin on the lips. Your lips may not need any lip balm in the warmer months since you have naturally plump and resilient lips, but wind and cold weather can cause pain and discomfort. For dry lips, choose a lip balm with natural oils to help lubricate lips without feeling too greasy or heavy. Classic lip moisturizers are Chapstick and Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm. Burt's Bees lip balm contains honeycomb beeswax, a natural emulsifier, and all-natural coconut oil, a hydrating skin protectant full of vitamins and essential fatty acids.
Chapped and peeling lips can be a huge annoyance due to the pain and unsightly appearance of the lips. Though they may not feel particularly dry, the peeling skin will feel and look like little scales making it hard to use lip stick or lip color. To remedy your poor lips, use an exfoliating lip balm that has tiny granules to help slough off dead skin and promote cell turnover. A good exfoliating lip balm should contain an effective scrub like sugar crystals or crushed fruit pits. Avoid lip balms with alpha hydroxy, beta hydroxy, glycolic or fruit acids if your lips are sensitive. These exfoliating acids may be irritating to some people. You can also use a facial cleanser scrub like St. Ives Swiss Invigorating Apricot Scrub to scrub your lips. Just remember to follow up with a moisturizing lip balm to lock moisture into your smooth lips!
Cracked and split lips:
Severely chapped lips can results in painfully cracked and split lips that hurt when your open your mouth to talk, drink or eat! This lip condition can be incredible difficult to manage as you are dealing with tight skin, peeling lips and micro cuts on your lip that may draw blood. You may even be more prone to infections. Save your lips with a serious lip healing moisturizer that is rich in vitamins and lipids to aid in lip lubrication and skin regeneration. Choose a medicated lip balm that contains active ingredients like camphor and menthol, which have antiseptic properties and can promote healing. An all-time favorite for severely chapped lip sufferers is Carmex. The original Carmex has been used for years to treat cold sores and lip blisters. Smith’s Rosebud Salve is another great beauty secret as the essential rose hip oils have helped to relieve chapped lips since 1908!
Fall and winter makeup trends
The Fall and Winter 2010 fashion collections showcased an array of grays and muted colors. However, accessories and makeup were all popping with color. This season color up with metallic eye shadows in shades like bronze and slate gray. Remember to keep your lips bare with nude lipstick or a swipe of concealer and gloss on the lips.
A big trend this year is nail art. For nails that are ready for the autumn and winter seasons, nail trends dictate that matte nail polish is going to be an absolute hit! Check out the new OPI matte nail polish collection with wacky names and outrageous colors!
Fall and winter perfumes and fragrances
During the colder seasons you may want to wear heavier perfumes. During warmer months, natural body oils help extend fragrances once they has been spritzed on. Perfumes and colognes that are alcohol-based may need to be a bit stronger to last throughout the day. This is because skin gets drier throughout cold, winter months and doesn't produce those natural oils that keep the fragrance going strong.
