How to make a bow
There are definitely some advantages to making your own bows – they often look better than pre-made bows and are usually cheaper than buying them at the store. The only materials you'll need to have are scissors and 3-4 yards of satin ribbon. You can use satin ribbon anywhere between ½ inch to 1 ½ inches in width.
- To create basic bows begin by looping the ribbon back and forth while pressing the center of the bow down with your index finger and thumb. Make sure all loops are the same size. (If the ribbon only has one shiny side you'll want make a twist with every other loop in order to have the shiny side show.)
- When you have the desired amount of loops you can take an additional piece of ribbon and tie the loops down at the center. (For a full bow, make 5-6 loops on either side. For a casual bow, make 3 loops on either side.)
- Now you can fold the tails in half and make a diagonal cut at the bottom.
Now you have a perfect, handmade bow, and you're ready to fasten it to your gift.
