I purchased the Sony RCD-W500C at the suggestion of a friend at work. I have many older albums that I wanted to try and record on a CD format. I spent about a week reading over the manual and another day or so getting familar with the controls on the deck. I am very pleased with the sound of the albums recorded on a CD format. The sound quality seems much better to me than the sound of many albums I have as CD's. The sound quality seems very smooth and has much more range than a cassette tape. I have never had any problem getting a CD to finalize. I am using TDK Music CD-R's to record. If you take your time reading over the manual and to get familar with the controls, you should not have any problems. It is very enjoyable to get an older album on vinyl on to a CD format. I have had very good results using Sony products.

On the Sony RCD-W500C/W100 I bought one about a month ago and have been pleased with it. I am able to record from CD to CD even thou I have not figure out how to adjust the volume while recording from CD to CD, and from Tape to CD which I can control the volume when recording from Tape to CD. I agree with everybody else on the instruction book that it's really confusing. So before you start read it over and over. I eventually will figure out how to set the volume when recording from CD to CD but I hate to mess with what I am able to do now considering all the bad feedback on this recorder.

This player recorder is really good, I use it every week at our church to record our praise service. We now have two, one for each sanctuary. It took a little bit to get through the instruction book, but once I mastered it, it has all of the functions I need. When you are recording live the make next track function is very useful to create breaks for the next song. The only thing I do not like is when nothing is happening it stops recording or creates lots of tracks, I now control that through the pause button.

This is one of the best CD players I've used. I listen to a lot of Books on Tape and this player picks up exactly where you leave off even if you stop it to do something else for awhile. It's fairly good about playing scratched CDs and has not jumped while I have been working out in the yard or walking with it. The ear phones are OK but get bit irritating after wearing them for a time. If you are looking for a good CD portable player without the radio, this is it. It is pretty light on battery use also.

This is a great sounding CD Walkman. I would give it 5 stars except it is more difficult than most to change batteries. You have to remove the CD, as the battery case is inside and under the CD. Then it is a bit hard to open the battery case and insert the batteries. Otherwise, I really enjoy this player.

got it for my Dad to walk with.He found it had too many buttons! He's 83 and can't see well. It kept gettign stuck on pause which frustrated him! When he had it working he LOVED it and couldn't believe it's great sound!

I was in the market for an SACD player after my Sony DVP-NS500V stopped seeing the SACD layer on hybrid discs. I could plunk $150 into repairing it, or into a new system. I read reviews on various units, and the Pioneer DV-578A-S for $100 sounded great. When I compared it to the DVP-NS500V however, the spatial resolution and tone quality sounded more like a CD. I suspect this is one of the machines that has a chip to convert the DSD data into 96KHz PCM for D/A conversion. Sony/Philips were fools to allow such downsampling in their DSD licensing; it dilutes the DSD/SACD trademark. Someone should initiate a class action suit or legislation to protect consumers. The Denon DVD-1920 was a candidate, but I discovered that it converts the DSD data to 192KHz PCM for the Burr-Brown 24/192 Audio DACs. This shouldn't be allowed. I found my way back to Sony, with the new DVP-NS3100ES. It is in their high-end ES consumer line, but not their budget busting DVP-NS9100ES. The sound is much better than on the Sony DVP-NS500V. It is breathtaking in its clarity and realism and spatial detail. The RCA Living Stereo reissue of Heifetz playing Beethoven's Violin Concerto has, in this DSD technology, better sound that Hilary Hahn gets from DGG's 96k recording fifty years later. My early production unit has a firmware glitch that causes occasional 1 second pauses in SACD playback. I need to get it back to a Sony Service Center, but the generous 5 year warrantee gives me plenty of time to do it.

If you've gotten this far, then you've read the technical specifications and they are state-of-the-art. This is one of the best SACD players on the market and SONY knows it stuff in this department. I love this player, as there are very few buttons to learn to use and the player remembers everything! If you take a movie out and place it back, it actually remembers where you left off! The only drawback is that it takes a few seconds longer than most players to recognize the format, but that is such a small price to pay!

I bought this three times (returned it 3 times as well) and the radio works BUT the CD player does not! Don't waste your time!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this yesterday. The FM/AM radio stations do work but the CD player doesn't work. It comes in a piece of hard plastic that you have to destroy in order to get it out so the chances of returning it are slim. I was really disappointed with this purchase, I usually don't have problems with CD players.

Pros: -530wrms -Dual Ported sub for extremely loud bass -Audio In (3.5mm) -Wireless remote -Exhaust fan in rear to prevent overheating Cons: -Ported satellite speakers (if they were sealed, would be better clarity and less bassy with movies.) -Sub woofer doesn't turn off when system is off (will drive electric bill up leaving it on 24/7.) -Volume knob isn't great, it's over sized and when turning slowly, it doesn't reflect revolutions like I would want it to. -3 Disc cd changer seems cheaply designed, but I never use it, so doesn't bother me. -Cords for sattelite speakers are very short, but merely adding some 16g speaker wire fixed that quickly. -Display on receiver is small and worthless.

An awesome stereo for the price, I wish it had more equilizer presets but other than that, for the sound you get for such a low price it is hard to beat
