Split King Sheets

“Toga! Toga! Toga! Toga!” chanted the Delta Tau Chi Fraternity in the film “Animal House.” Wouldn’t you want to throw one of the more popular party themes such as a toga-themed party and go crazy just like John Belushi?

The main object you’ll need for a toga party is obviously, a sheet. Cover up in style with some split king sheets that will hopefully ensure you from standing out among the many other event patrons wearing any old white sheet as a toga.

Here are handy ideas for properly wearing a toga:

1. Hold one split king sheet horizontally and wrap the material around your waist.

2. Once you’re covered up, pin it down.

3. Grasping the excess sheet, toss the rest of your sheet over either shoulder.

4. Bring the fabric from around your back and to your waste again where you’ll pin it down, again. You’re all done!

• Accessories: Accentuate your toga party outfit with a plastic sword (let’s keep it safe, O.K.) and a laurel wreath for your headwear.

• What do you wear underneath a toga? Any underwear should suffice, but if you’re a traditionalist then you can go nude.

All trespassing issues aside, Goldilocks had it right when she proved herself to be a selective bed-picker. With all sorts of different factors to take in when choosing a mattress, shopping around can be overwhelming. Take into account the needs of the mattress dweller, the size of the room and purpose when considering the following bed sizes:

• Twin/Single (39”x75”): Twins are the smallest and narrowest of the mattress family, so they’re a perfect choice for children’s rooms, guest rooms and smaller bedrooms. Though they may be the cheapest choice of all sizes, twin beds are usually meant for a single sleeper and might be too small for many adults. Most bunk beds and daybeds also come in twin sizes (check out our collection of daybed bedding sets!).
  • Twin beds also come in extra-long (five inches longer than a standard twin). This longer version is often used in college dorm rooms. Be sure to pay attention to when buying bedding for this size: standard fitted sheets may not fit. Twin extra-long beds can also pushed together to make a king size bed.
• Double/Full (54”x75”): Double beds are ideal for a single adult sleeper looking to save money and space but need something larger than a twin. However, double beds might be too narrow for two adult sleepers, with only a width of 27-inches per person.
• Queen (60”x80”): Extra length and width give enough room for two adult sleepers who don’t mind closer quarters than a king size mattress would offer.
• King: The biggest of the mattress family, king sized mattress come in two types:
  • Standard King (76”x80”): Also known as Eastern King beds, standard kings are the widest of the mattress family and most comfortable for two adults. However, they take up a lot of space (not an ideal choice for smaller digs) and will be difficult to move due to their size.
  • Split king: Standard kings also come in the split king (dual king) option, which features two separate mattresses at 38x80 inches each. Because of its unique dimensions, special split king sheets will be needed.
  • California King (72”x84”): Also known as Western King, these are the longest of all mattress sizes. Tall people will appreciate the extra length, but like the standard king, they also take up a lot of space and may be difficult to move.
