Black tie events have never really been my thing. If given the option, I would stick to classic maxi dresses or jersey sundresses. But you need to have at least one outfit in your wardrobe that can be used as a black tie dress and is fashionable for the holidays too.
A lot of women presume that black tie dresses are too upscale, costly and rather extravagant. But anything from a floor-sweeping ball gown to a short and elegant cocktail dress can work. With the 80s retro style coming back in full swing, it is time that you experimented with feminine menswear.
One of my favorite styles is the tuxedo dress for women. Kim Kardashian had sported a similar look at the Cannes festival with a jacket. Even though black remains a popular color associated with tuxes, fashionistas can pick from some brighter hues.
I love the Marc New York ruched tuxedo dress, which is luxurious and affordably priced. It has ravishing ruffles line with a standing collar and front split neck. The tux-inspired outfit comes in animal print, giving classic fashion a contemporary twist. The button placket and seaming details on the back add to that oomph factor!
There’s no need to invest in a black tie dress that’s restrictive or exorbitantly priced, because a chic cocktail dress doubles as a formal outfit. Knee length outfits are not a faux pas here. But do avoid something that ends way above the knees, as it’s tacky for such occasions.
