Two Tier Fruit Basket

Whether you’re a stay-at-home mother or a working one, at times it seems that one cannot keep their kitchen free of clutter. Either it’s the kids making demands or you’re just not able to fit in kitchen organizing time into your schedule. What I’ve found to be the most efficient and workable method is to clean up as you go. Here are some tips I’ve found helpful.

• Take an hour or so to take stock of your kitchen.  If the task is overwhelming and you don’t know where to begin, start with chucking all the things you know you don’t need into the bin.
• Organize your spice jars and keep them in two racks or two different spice organizers. One rack is quickly reachable and contains your everyday, frequently used items like bay leaves, basil, salt, pepper etc. The other one has less frequently used seasonings, dried herbs and other things that you simply can’t do without but don’t use on a daily basis.
• Don’t keep your fruits scattered in two or three fruit baskets that occupy counter space. Use a two-tier fruit basket to organize your fruits better and keep them in a corner.
• How many times do you use your blender, mixer, coffee maker and other gadgets? Keep the ones you use daily like the coffee maker on the counter and keep the rest inside a cupboard. It prevents them from getting dirty.
• Load the dishwasher as you go or wash dishes immediately after use. Don’t use the draining board as a storage place to keep your washed dishes and other things. Keeping it tidy and neat instantly gives the kitchen counters an organized look.
• Keep a file or a box inside a drawer or use a drawer to keep recipes, bills and magazines that you need. Keep aprons and kitchen towels neatly folded inside a drawer to save more space.

Clean up as you go. Throw away what you don’t need. Take an hour off every week to just put things back in place. A place for everything and everything in place works beautifully.
