Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Review.

Review: Back in 2007, the first Uncharted game had the world spell bound when it gave gamers an appetizer of outstanding visuals and a brilliant storyline. The game revolved around Nathan Drake. His journey in the first game was one of the most enthralling gaming experiences in this generation of console gaming. While Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was only an appetizer from the game developers at Naughty Dog, this time they have brought the full main course with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. That’s right… The sequel has truly and completely overshadowed the first one. The sequel is much bigger and much better than the first one in every way possible. It went on to win the Game of the Year title at the Spike Video Game Awards 2009… Which is why, I was so excited to get my hands on it and boy was I in for a treat.

For those of you who didn’t get to play the first one, Nathan Drake is a treasure hunter. He heads out searching for a lost artifact and ends up finding more trouble than he had bargained for. You follow his adventures across the globe, fighting a hose of villains and navigating a bundle of ancient and ingenious traps. The grand adventure that encompasses the whole globe throws frame after frame of beautiful locales at you and doesn’t give you the time to admire them because it also hurls obstacles and enemies at you just as fast.

You will be dodging bullets shot from Gatling guns, grenades and snipers while negotiating some challenging terrain. The screen is filled with chaotic combat and the campaign mode is a grand adventure you simply cannot dislike. The Playstation DualShock 3 controller, like the earlier wireless ps2 controller is perfectly suited for the game. My favorite part of the game was in the rainforests. The rain added a brilliant element of surprise in the game. I won’t ruin it for those of you out there. Play the game and enjoy it.

After you’ve finished the campaign mode, don’t be surprised if you find yourself still craving for more action. You will not be disappointed. The game has a three player cooperative mode where you can play select locations of the adventure with your friends. It is a thrilling experience to play the cooperative mode with your friends where team work is crucial. The game also has a fully functional competitive multiplayer mode. You can play Deathmatches, Capture the Flag and Territories. The sheer magnitude of the game and the abilities of the players combine for a dangerously addictive combination. If you happen to have a Playstation Eye with you then you can even video conference with your multiplayer allies. All in all, it is a complete package of adventure, action and nonstop entertainment.

Uncharted 2 is a brilliant and outstanding video game. It has unparalleled gameplay and action. You will find yourself immersed in the game and it most certainly deserves the title of “Game of the Year” that it won at the Spike Video Game Awards. It is a literal delight to play and you will enjoy every minute of it.
